Share the love of surfing with Bali Life Foundation
Updated: Oct 10, 2020
Last Sunday we had our very first surf session at Dreamland beach with the children from Bali Life Foundation and it was truly just the best afternoon. First of all, we would like to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who participated and donated, the kids were super stoked when they saw all the boards and equipment and just couldn't wait to get out in the surf.
Some of you may already know Bali Life Foundation but for those of you who don't they are a wonderful foundation started back in 2005 to help underprivileged children in Bali, a lot of the children aren't orphans but come from an abusive family background or severe poverty where their family simply cannot provide for them. BLF provide a safe environment for these children to grow up, enrolling them into school and teaching different life skills such as computer science, swimming ( and surfing) so when they are at an age to leave the foundation they are prepared with skills to help them succeed in life.
The aim of this project is to get them out in the water and share the love of surfing, we hope that one day they will find something they are passionate about and thrive from as surfing has done for many of us.
Last Sunday we have our Bingin volunteers Tommy, Matt, Cavy, Cam & Rory helping the younger boys surfing the small reforms further down the beach. The kids were having the time of their lives while the volunteers swam against the strong current while avoiding sea urchins.
(If you are interested in volunteering please send us a message)
While the younger ones surfed around the surf coaches (image of the left), the older kids surfed in the main break and with special instructions from Mega regarding surf etiquette that they just learnt earlier, with the penalty of 20 push-ups if they dropped in.
We are planning for our next surf day out with the kids which will take place on Saturday morning, October 17th at Bingin Beach. If you would still like to donate your second-hand surf goods, please drop it off at DAYA surf shop in Bingin. Currently, we are still most in need of the following items;
- Kids boardshorts
- Adult boardshorts
Thank you so much !!
